Conference on The State of Artificial Intelligence in Africa Cosaa 2023


The Center for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) invites AI researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers, data practitioners, policymakers, and business leaders to the Conference on the State of Artificial Intelligence in Africa (COSAA). The conference will take place at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya from March 16 to March 17, 2023. Conference activities and sessions will be streamed online for a global audience.

COSAA 2023 will be an interdisciplinary gathering of AI and data stakeholders from the business community, ICT, academia, legal, policy, and regulatory fields, and civil society for a two – day event of inspiring keynote addresses, thought-provoking panels, and limitless high-value networking. The primary goal of COSAA is to broaden research and innovations in AI in Africa by promoting the exchange of ideas among attendees. COSAA 2023 will investigate the vibrant emerging AI ecosystem on the African continent. On two stages and various interactive formats, conference speakers will cover the following topics:

  1. Practical AI: AI use and impact in the health, agriculture, legal, and creative fields in Africa

  2. AI and Data: Privacy and surveillance concerns and mitigation measures

  3. Responsible AI: Policies, laws, and frameworks

  4. AI and Innovation: Infrastructure, capacity, and data

The conference will also include an exhibition floor to showcase next – generation AI technologies developed on the African continent to solve the continent’s unique challenges. This will offer attendees the chance to explore and discover the practical and successful implementation of AI & Big Data in driving forward the continent’s development goals.
