This Special Issue marks JIPIT’s Fifth-Anniversary Edition and brings together scholarly contributions on Responsible and Ethical AI Governance in Africa. The articles interrogate the legal, ethical, and policy dimensions of AI in Africa, with particular attention to consumer protection, data governance and identifiability, digital deception and deepfakes in justice systems, and the copyright and ethical implications of AI-generated scholarship. Collectively, the papers offer Africa-centered analyses and practical proposals to advance responsible AI regulation, strengthen safeguards, and enable innovation within the Global South.
