Call for abstracts

The Data Privacy and Governance Society of Kenya (DPGSK) in partnership with the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) and Amnesty International Kenya is excited to announce the call for abstracts for the upcoming DPGSK Annual Conference and Research Day. This Conference that will be held at Strathmore University on October 22, 2025, is an excellent opportunity for scholars and professionals whose work in progress intersects with data governance and public interest to submit abstracts of their original work for consideration.

We welcome abstracts on, but not limited to, the following themes:

  • Data governance frameworks that advance the public interest.

  • Transparency and accountability in data governance.

  • Regulatory compliance in African contexts.

  • Balancing legal grounds and public benefit in data processing.

  • Data protection impact assessments for public benefit processing.

  • Data rights and participatory governance.

  • Governing image rights within cultural contexts.

  • Security and resilience in data Systems.

  • Case studies by the government, civil society, private sector and cross-sector collaborations.

Important Dates

  • Abstract submission deadline: September 30, 2025

  • Notification of acceptance: October 6, 2025

  • Conference date: October 22, 2025

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Applicants should submit the following in a single PDF:

  • A 300-word Abstract.

  • A bio containing a brief professional background, current role and contact details.

Submissions selected for presentation at the Conference, will be published in the Journal of Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (JIPIT) in 2026, providing visibility and recognition for contributors.

For the conference, authors will present working drafts of their papers: complete draft papers are due by 30th November 2025
